Living with the Atomic Bomb, 1945-1965
American History: An Important Subject for Today
For high school and college students, adults continuing their education, and senior citizens wanting a better understanding of their country, the study of American history has never been more important — important to understand where this country has been; what social, political, and economic issues it has confronted; and how this history impacts our nation today.
In this time of virtual classrooms and video streaming, it has become increasingly easier — and arguably more effective — to offer courses and presentations to Americans of all ages.
For the past few years, I have taught at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Miami. Prior to this, I taught as an adjunct professor at several colleges in the Kansas City, Missouri, area, which was my home prior to moving to Miami.
In addition, I am a member of the Florida Humanities Council's Speakers Bureau and have given one-time presentations on topics such as women in civil defense during the early Cold War and living with the atomic bomb in the 1950s.

I received my doctorate in American studies from the University of Kansas. I am also the author of five books on the early Cold War, including my most recent book, Alert America: The Atomic Bomb and "The Show That May Save Your Life."
Please contact me about either teaching a comprehensive virtual course or giving a one-time presentation.
I am also open to designing a specific presentation for your needs.
I look forward to hear from you.
